Okay, here’s my blog post about my “trad goth hair” experiment, written in a casual, conversational style, just like the example:
Alright, so I decided to try out that whole “trad goth hair” thing. I’ve always kinda dug the look, you know? Big, teased, and kinda scary. But my hair is naturally, like, super flat and boring. So, this was a whole adventure.
The Prep
First, I washed my hair. Gotta start with a clean slate, right? I used some volumizing shampoo, hoping it would give me a head start. Then, I rough-dried it with a towel – no fancy blow-drying yet. Just wanted to get most of the water out.

The Teasing
This is where the real fun (and arm ache) began. I grabbed a fine-tooth comb and a can of hairspray – the strongest hold I could find. I started at the back, taking small sections of hair and backcombing like crazy. Basically, you push the comb towards your scalp instead of away. It feels weird, and it looks kinda messy at first.
I worked my way around my head, section by section. Spray, tease, spray, tease. It took forever. My arms were seriously burning by the end. And my hair? It looked like a bird’s nest exploded on my head. But a big bird’s nest, which was the goal, I guess.
- Backcombing: The core to make hair stand.
- Hair Spray: Keeps the volume.
The Smoothing (Kinda)
Once I had this massive, tangled mess, I took a soft brush and very, very gently smoothed the top layer. The idea is to make it look less like a rat’s nest and more like, well, intentional volume. I didn’t want to undo all that teasing, so I was super careful.

The Finishing Touches
I sprayed the whole thing down with more hairspray – seriously, I think I used half a can. Then, I kinda sculpted it with my hands, trying to get that classic goth shape. You know, big and round, but with some pointy bits sticking out. I even added some black hair clips with little skulls on them, just for extra goth points.
My takeaway
It is hard to make, and cost me much time. I think maybe I need some practice.
