Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with gothic fashion lately, and I wanted to really do it, not just pin stuff on Pinterest. So I decided to dive in headfirst. Here’s how it went down.
Getting Started
First, I scoured my closet. I mean, really searched. I pulled out anything black, obviously. Found a few old lace tops I’d forgotten about, a long black skirt that was kinda…meh, but potentially workable, and some ripped-up black jeans. Not a bad start, but definitely needed more.
The Hunt
Next up, thrifting! I hit up a couple of local secondhand stores. I spent a good two hours digging through racks. It was kinda hit or miss, you know? Found a killer velvet jacket that was totally perfect – score! And this weird, kinda Victorian-looking blouse with these huge sleeves. It was a little damaged, but I figured I could fix it up.
- Velvet jacket – YES!
- Weird blouse – maybe?
- Lots of other stuff – NO.
Making it Work
I laid everything out on my bed. It was a pile of…possibilities. I started playing around, mixing and matching. That long black skirt? Way better with the velvet jacket. The ripped jeans? Actually looked cool with the weird blouse, once I added a chunky belt.

Details, Details
Accessories are key, right? I already had some silver jewelry – rings, a few necklaces with crosses and stuff. I dug out some old black boots I hadn’t worn in ages. They were a little scuffed, but that just added to the vibe, I think.
I also went online and ordered some darker lipstick and some black nail polish. I’m not usually a big makeup person, but I figured I’d try to go all out.
The Final Look(s)
I actually ended up with a few different outfits I really liked. One was super dramatic, with the skirt, jacket, and boots. Another was more casual, with the jeans and blouse. I even managed to sew up a small tear in the blouse – felt pretty proud of that!

Final Thoughts
It was actually way more fun than I expected! And a lot cheaper than buying a whole new wardrobe. It just took some time, some digging, and a little bit of creativity. I’m definitely going to keep exploring this style. Might even try to make some of my own clothes next!
