Where to Buy Gothic Style Fashion: Best Stores & Brands for Beginners

Okay, so I’ve been seeing “gothic fashion” all over my Pinterest and TikTok lately, and I finally decided to give it a shot. I’ve always been a bit intimidated by it, but hey, why not try something new, right?

Diving into the Darkness

First, I started by doing some research. I mean, “gothic” is a pretty broad term. There are like a million sub-styles! I scrolled through tons of pictures and articles, trying to figure out what I liked and what I didn’t. I realized pretty quickly that I’m not into the super hardcore, vampire-esque stuff. More like, the softer, more romantic side of gothic.

Gathering My Supplies

Next, I checked my closet. I already had a few black pieces that could work – a flowy black skirt, some black boots, a couple of black tops. But I definitely needed more. So, I headed to the thrift store! Thrifting is the best for this kind of thing, because you can find unique, older pieces that really fit the vibe. I scored a long black velvet dress, a lace top, and a cool, chunky silver necklace. I felt the begin of my style!

Putting It All Together

Time for the fun part – actually creating the outfits! I started with the basics: black dress, black boots. But it needed something more. I added the lace top underneath the dress, which gave it a nice, layered look. Then, I threw on the silver necklace and some black eyeliner. Much better! It’s still pretty simple, but definitely has that gothic feel.

  • Day 1: Black flowy skirt, black tank top, black boots, and a silver cross necklace. Felt a bit witchy, in a good way!
  • Day 2: Black velvet dress (the thrifted one!), black tights, black boots, and the lace top underneath. This was my favorite! Super comfy and felt really elegant.
  • Day3: Try to find the balance from my current clothes to match the style.

The Verdict?

I really enjoyed experimenting with gothic style! It’s definitely out of my comfort zone, but in a good way. It made me feel more confident and expressive. I don’t think I’ll be wearing it every day, but I’ll definitely be incorporating some of these pieces into my regular wardrobe. And who knows, maybe I’ll even try some of the more dramatic gothic looks in the future! For now, I’m happy with my baby steps into the darkness. I will try my best to keep updating this style and show the new progress!
