Okay, so today I decided to dive into the history of witchcraft. It’s something I’ve always been curious about, so I figured, why not?
Getting Started
First, I just started Googling. You know, “witchcraft history,” “origins of witchcraft,” stuff like that. I just wanted to get a general overview before I got too deep into anything specific.
Digging Deeper
After I got the basic gist, I started looking into different traditions. I mean, there’s Wicca, which a lot of people have heard of, but then there are all these other paths too, like traditional witchcraft, ceremonial magic, and even stuff specific to certain regions, It’s a lot!
- Wicca: I kind of knew a little about this one already, but I read up some more on its origins and practices.
- Traditional Witchcraft: This one seemed pretty interesting, focusing more on folk magic and local customs.
- Other Stuff: I also glanced at things like ceremonial magic and regional practices, but I didn’t get too far into those yet.
Finding Resources
It’s pretty overwhelming, honestly. There’s SO much information out there, and a lot of it is, well, let’s just say not very reliable. So I tried to stick to websites and books that seemed a bit more academic or at least had some decent sources listed. I figured it’s better to be safe than sorry when you’re dealing with this kind of topic.

My Takeaways (So Far)
I definitely learned a lot. Witchcraft isn’t just one thing; It’s this huge, complicated web of beliefs and practices that have changed over time and across different cultures. It’s also way more nuanced than I originally thought.
Next Steps
I’m still just scratching the surface. I think next, I’m going to try to find some good books on the subject. Maybe focus on one specific tradition or time period. I’ve got a stack of articles I saved, too, so that’s probably where I’ll start tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted!
