Okay, so I got really into this whole “witchcraft history” thing today. It started with a random YouTube video, and then I just fell down a rabbit hole. Here’s how it went:
The YouTube Black Hole
First, I watched that initial video. It was pretty general, talking about the origins of witchcraft beliefs in, like, ancient cultures. Nothing too specific, but it piqued my interest.
Diving into Articles
Then, I started googling. You know, just “witchcraft history” to see what would pop up. I found a bunch of articles, some from seemingly legit historical websites, others from, well, let’s just say less reliable sources. I tried to stick to the ones that looked more academic.
- I read about the witch trials in Europe. That was intense. So many people, mostly women, accused and… yeah, it was rough.
- I skimmed some stuff about ancient Greek and Roman beliefs about magic and curses. It was hard to understand.
- I found an article about how different cultures have different ideas about what a “witch” even is. That was pretty eye-opening.
Getting Lost in Wikipedia
Of course, I ended up on Wikipedia. I started with a general “witchcraft” page and then just clicked on link after link. I learned about the different types of magic people believed in, the tools they supposedly used, and the kinds of spells they were thought to cast.
I went from those pages to all kinds of weird folklore and mythology stuff.
Feeling a Bit Overwhelmed
Honestly, after a few hours, I was feeling a little overwhelmed. There’s just SO much information, and a lot of it is, you know, debatable. It’s hard to know what’s real history and what’s just stories that have been passed down.
Decided I got enough
I’ve decided I have enough to do for the day. Maybe it’s the start for a new intersting topic to me, I’ll see.
