Trad goth dress to impress: Easy tips for beginners.

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try out a trad goth look for a while now. I’ve always been drawn to the aesthetic, but it felt a little intimidating. But hey, you only live once, right? So I decided to just go for it. This is how it all went down.

The Hunt for Pieces

First things first, I needed some clothes. I didn’t want to just buy a whole new wardrobe, so I started by digging through my closet. I found a black velvet dress I’d forgotten about – score! It’s a little on the fancy side, but I figured I could dress it down.

Then, I hit up some thrift stores. This was actually super fun. I found a long, flowy black skirt that looked like it had seen some things, in a good way. I also grabbed a couple of lacy tops – one black, one a deep, dark red. And, the best find of all? A pair of pointy-toed boots with a bit of a heel. They were a little scuffed, but that just added to the vibe.

Putting It All Together

Okay, so here’s where the magic happened. I decided to go with the velvet dress as the base. It’s got this cool, almost vintage feel, but the cut is pretty simple, so it didn’t feel too over-the-top.

Then I started messing around with accessories. I had this silver cross necklace that I’ve had forever. It was perfect. And a chunky silver ring I found at a flea market a while back. I even added a thin black ribbon as a choker, just to add a little extra detail.

For my hair, I just went with what I had. Messy, kinda wavy. I didn’t want it to look too “done”.

The Makeup

I keep my makeup look pretty dark and mysterious. I started with a pale foundation, my regular one.

Then, the real fun began. I went for a smoky eye, using a mix of black and dark gray eyeshadows. I blended it out a lot, so it wasn’t too harsh. Added some black eyeliner, of course, and lots of mascara.

For lips, I wanted something dramatic, so I chose a deep red lipstick. It was a matte finish, which I think works better for this look. I did use a lip liner, too to make it a little dramatic.

The Final Verdict

So, how did it all turn out? Honestly, I loved it! It felt like I was stepping into a different persona, but in a good way. It was empowering, and I definitely got some looks – in a good way, I think! I wouldn’t wear it to the grocery store, but for a night out? Absolutely.

It was fun to put together and to wear,I’m going to play around with different pieces and see what other looks I can create. This trad goth thing? Might be my new favorite style, at least some days.
