Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of 80s gothic fashion inspo floating around, and I got REALLY into it. I decided to try and recreate the look myself, starting from scratch.

Getting Started: Research, Research, Research
First, I hit the internet. I spent hours looking at old photos, music videos, and anything I could find about 80s goth style. It was a deep dive! I needed to get a feel for the key elements.
Gathering the Pieces
Next, I raided my closet. I dug out anything black, lacy, or even remotely dramatic. I also hit some thrift stores, which is always an adventure. You never know what you’ll find! I was on the lookout for:
- Black everything: Seriously, lots of black.
- Lace: Gloves, tops, anything.
- Velvet: If I could find it.
- Big, dramatic skirts.
- Boots: Chunky, ideally.
- Accessories: Crosses, chokers, that kind of thing.
Putting It All Together
This was the fun part! I started experimenting. I tried different combinations of clothes, layered things, and generally just played around until I felt like I was getting close to the vibe I wanted. It was a lot of trial and error. Some things looked surprisingly good, others…not so much.

The Hair and Makeup
Of couse, I needed to get that hair going.
Lots of teasing and hairspray to try make my hair bigger.
Then dark eyeliner and dark lipstick.

The Final Result
It took a while, but I was pretty happy with how it turned out! It definitely captured that 80s goth feeling I was going for. It’s not perfect, and it’s my own take on it, but that’s part of the fun. It’s all about expressing yourself, right?
I learned that recreating a specific style from the past takes time and effort, also you need to get some patience. But it’s super rewarding when you finally put it all together and see your vision come to life!
