Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with gothic high fashion lately. It’s, like, this perfect blend of dark, romantic, and edgy, but with a super luxe feel. I decided I had to try and put together a look, even though my closet is mostly…not that.
I started by digging through everything I owned. I mean, everything. I pulled out all the black stuff, obviously. Found a long, kinda flowy black skirt that I’d forgotten about – score! Then I found this black lace top that I usually wear with jeans. It’s got these bell sleeves, which felt kinda gothic.
Experiment time.
- First Attempt: Skirt, lace top. It was…okay. Kinda boring, actually. Needed something more.
- Second Attempt: Added a thick black belt with a big, kinda ornate buckle. Better! It cinched the waist and added some shape. But still missing something…
- Third Attempt (The Magic Happens): I remembered this old, black velvet choker I had from, like, high school. Found it buried in a jewelry box. Put it on, and BAM! Suddenly, the whole thing felt way more gothic.
Then I played with shoes. Tried some chunky black boots, but they felt too heavy. Ended up going with some pointy-toe black heels. They felt more elegant, which is what I wanted for the “high fashion” part.
Makeup was next. I kept it pretty simple: pale foundation, dark smoky eyes (lots of black and grey eyeshadow), and a deep red lipstick. I even tried to do that whole “vampy” lip thing where you darken the edges. Not sure I totally nailed it, but it looked cool.

Finally, I messed with my hair. Did a messy bun, with some strands pulled out to frame my face. I wanted it to look kinda undone and romantic, not too perfect.
I took some photos, and honestly? I was pretty happy with how it turned out! It definitely wasn’t perfect – I’m no fashion expert – but it felt like me, and it definitely captured that gothic high fashion vibe I was going for. I’m thinking I might need to invest in a few more key pieces, though…maybe a long, dramatic coat? Or some killer boots? The journey continues!
