Okay, here’s my blog post about my “Fashion Gothic” experiment:
So, I’ve been seeing this “fashion gothic” thing popping up all over my feeds, and I gotta say, I was intrigued. I’ve always been a bit of a plain Jane – jeans, t-shirts, the occasional dress. But there was something about the dark, romantic vibe of fashion gothic that I just had to try.
Diving In Headfirst (Almost)
First, I scrolled through a ton of pictures online. I mean, a lot. I wanted to get a feel for what “fashion gothic” actually meant. It seemed like there were a bunch of different styles, from super dramatic Victorian-inspired looks to more modern, edgy outfits.
I decided to start small. I wasn’t about to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. I figured I’d work with what I already had and maybe pick up a few key pieces.

My Closet Raid
I dug through my closet and found a few things that could work:
- A black, flowy skirt that I usually wear to, like, funerals.
- A black lace top that I bought for a Halloween party years ago and never wore again.
- My trusty black boots.
- A dark purple lipstick I got in a subscription box that I thought was “too much” for everyday wear.
The Transformation
I put on the skirt and the lace top. Hmm, not bad. It definitely felt different than my usual style. I added the boots, and that made it feel a bit more…intentional. Like I was actually trying for a specific look, not just wearing random black clothes.
Then came the makeup. I’m usually a “no-makeup makeup” kind of girl. That dark purple lipstick was a HUGE step for me, but yikes! I did put some on, and wow, it was a big change. I almost wiped it off, but I decided to stick with it.

The Results
I took a few pictures, and I have to admit, I kind of liked it! It wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely a step in the fashion gothic direction. I felt…different. More confident, maybe? A little bit mysterious, even.
I did feel a bit better with myself, and felt like the experiment was a success!

It’s definitely not an everyday look for me, but it was fun to try something new. I might even try to incorporate some of these elements into my regular outfits. Maybe a little black lace here, a darker lipstick there… who knows? I’m definitely keeping that purple lipstick!
