So, I’ve been totally obsessed with gothic fashion lately, and I decided I needed more tops to complete my looks. I mean, you can never have too many, right?
First, I spent, like, hours browsing online. I looked at so many different styles, from the super elaborate Victorian-inspired stuff to the more simple, everyday kind of gothic looks.
My DIY Adventure
I wanted something unique, so I thought, “Why not try making my own?” I’m not exactly a pro seamstress, but I figured I could handle something simple.
- Step 1: Finding the Base. I raided my closet and found a plain black long-sleeved shirt. It was kinda boring, but it was the perfect starting point.
- Step 2: Adding Lace. I went to a craft store and got some black lace trim. It was the kind with a pretty floral pattern. I carefully sewed it around the cuffs and the neckline. It took a while, and my fingers got poked a few times, but it was worth it!
- Step 3: Studs and Spikes (Optional). I found some black studs. I added a few of these to the shoulders, very sparsely. It was a small detail.
- Step 4: The Fit. I tried it on and it looked amazing! It fit is perfect.
Honestly, the whole process was pretty fun, even though I’m not the craftiest person. And now I have a totally unique gothic top that I can wear with, like, everything!
