So, I decided to get all crafty and make a crystal tree topper for the holidays. I’d seen some really pretty ones online, but they were all, like, super expensive. Figured I could totally DIY it and save a few bucks, plus, you know, get that warm fuzzy feeling of making something myself.

Gathering the Goods
First things first, I needed supplies. I hit up the local craft store and grabbed:
- A whole bunch of clear crystal beads – different sizes, because variety is the spice of life, right?
- Some strong, but bendable, wire. I went with silver ’cause it seemed festive.
- A star-shaped base. I found a simple wire one, but you could probably use cardboard or something too.
- Wire cutters. Essential.
- Pliers – those little jewelry-making ones, for bending the wire all nice and neat.
Building the Bling
Alright, time to get down to business. I started by cutting a long piece of wire. No real measuring, just eyeballed it. I figured longer was better than shorter – you can always trim it later. Then, I started stringing on the beads. I went for a random pattern, mixing up the big and small ones. No real plan, just went with the flow.
Once I had a good length of beaded wire (again, eyeballed it – I’m all about that “rustic” look), I started wrapping it around the star base. This was a little tricky, trying to get it to stay put and look all… symmetrical-ish. I used the pliers to bend the wire and secure it to the base. This part took a bit of fiddling, ngl.
I kept adding more beaded wires, wrapping and twisting, until the star was all covered and sparkly. It was looking pretty good! I made sure to leave some extra wire at the bottom, so I could attach it to the tree later.
The Grand Finale
The moment of truth! I carefully climbed up (safety first, kids!) and attached my sparkly creation to the top of the Christmas tree. The extra wire at the bottom worked perfectly, just twisted it around the top branch. And… ta-da! It looked awesome! Way better than I expected, tbh. The light caught the crystals and it just shimmered. Super proud of myself.
Total cost? Way less than those fancy store-bought ones. And, I got to spend an afternoon being all crafty. Win-win! It’s not perfect, sure, but it’s mine, and that’s what makes it special. Now have the best and creative tree in my home.
