Okay, so I stumbled upon this “tree crystal” thing and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I mean, it looked pretty cool in the pictures, and I’m always up for a little DIY project. So, here’s how it went down.
Gathering the Supplies
First things first, I needed to gather all the stuff. I grabbed:
- A small, bare branch from my backyard (looked kinda like a mini tree)
- A glass jar (an old pickle jar, washed out, of course)
- Some Borax (found it in the laundry aisle at the store)
- Boiling water (gotta be careful with this!)
- Food coloring (because, why not make it colorful?)
- String (to hang the branch)
- A pencil (to hold the string)
Mixing the Magic Potion
Next up, I mixed up the solution. I poured about 3-4 tablespoons of Borax into the jar. Then, I very carefully poured in the boiling water. I stirred and stirred until the Borax was all dissolved. It looked kinda cloudy, but that’s okay. Then add few drops of color.
Setting Up the Tree
I tied the string to the branch and lowered it into the jar. I used the pencil to hold the string in place, making sure the branch wasn’t touching the bottom or sides of the jar. It’s all set.

The Waiting Game
Now for the hardest part… waiting! I placed the jar on a shelf where it wouldn’t be disturbed. And then I waited. And waited. I checked it after a few hours, and nothing. But hey, patience is a virtue, right?
Crystal Magic!
The next morning, BAM! Crystals! It totally worked! The branch was covered in these sparkly, colorful crystals. It looked like a miniature, magical tree. Success!
It was a pretty cool experiment. A little bit of science, a little bit of art, and a whole lot of waiting. But in the end, it was totally worth it. I’ve got a cool little crystal tree decoration, and I made it myself!
