Okay, so I’ve been seeing “gothic grunge fashion” all over my Pinterest and TikTok lately, and I had to give it a shot. I’m not gonna lie, it felt a little outside my usual style, but that’s what made it fun! Here’s how I went about putting my own spin on it.
Digging Through My Closet (and Beyond)
First, I raided my closet. I mean, really dug deep. I was looking for anything black, obviously, but also anything with texture. Think ripped jeans, anything with lace, maybe a faded band tee… you get the idea. I found a few things, but I knew I needed more to really nail the look.
- Old Ripped Jeans: Found a pair I’d practically forgotten about. Perfect! The more distressed, the better.
- Black Lace Top: This was a lucky find. It’s a little delicate, but I figured it would add a nice contrast to the tougher elements.
- Oversized Flannel Shirt: Okay, not strictly “gothic,” but it’s definitely grunge. I planned to tie it around my waist.
The Hunt for More
Next, I went to the thrift store. It’s a goldmine. I spent maybe an hour just browsing through the racks. You wouldn’t believe the stuff you can find. My goal,find some unique pieces to make it “gothic.”
- Chunky Boots: Scored some amazing, slightly scuffed-up combat boots. Super comfy, too!
- Silver Chain: Just a simple, long silver chain. Adds a little bit of that “dark” vibe.
- Black Velvet Skirt: This was my favorite find. Velvet just screams “gothic” to me.
Putting It All Together
This was the fun part! I started with the basics: the ripped jeans and the black lace top. Then I layered the velvet skirt over the jeans – yeah, I know, a little unconventional, but it worked! I added the flannel around my waist for that classic grunge touch.
Next, the accessories. I slipped on the boots, draped the silver chain around my neck, and then spent a good ten minutes trying to get my eyeliner just right. Winged liner is a must for this look, in my opinion.
The Final Verdict
I stepped back and looked at myself in the mirror. Honestly? I loved it! It was edgy, a little bit dark, but still felt like me. I even snapped a few pictures – had to document the experiment, right? It’s definitely a look I’ll be trying again, maybe with a few different variations. Might even try to find a studded belt next time…
