Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with medieval gothic fashion lately. It’s just so dramatic and cool! I decided I wanted to try and put together a look inspired by it, so here’s how it went down.
Diving into Research
First, I started by just looking at a ton of pictures. I mean, I used Pinterest, some random blogs, and even checked out some museum websites that had pictures of old clothes. I just wanted to get a good feel for what “medieval gothic” even really means, you know?
I noticed a few things that kept popping up:
- Lots of dark colors – black, deep reds, purples, that kind of thing.
- Long, flowing shapes – like, really long dresses and sleeves.
- Pointy stuff – pointy shoes, pointy hats, even pointy shoulders sometimes!
- Rich fabrics – velvet, brocade, stuff that looks expensive.
- Layers– I saw a lot of layering.
Gathering My Materials
Then the fun part came along and I went shopping! Of course, I couldn’t just buy a real medieval gothic dress (unless I wanted to spend a fortune!), so I decided to hit up some thrift stores and see what I could find. I also checked my own closet for anything that might work.

Here’s what I managed to get my hands on:
- A long black velvet skirt (score!).
- A dark red, lacy top.
- A wide, black belt.
- Some black boots with a slightly pointy toe.
Putting the Outfit Together
I started with the skirt and top. The skirt was already perfect – long, black, and velvet. The top added a bit of that gothic romance vibe with the lace. Then I cinched the waist with the wide belt, which I think gave it a more defined shape, and I liked how that looked.
Accessorizing
I put on my pointy-ish boots. They weren’t super pointy, but they were the best I had. I also found a long, silver necklace with a dark pendant, I felt it looks pretty gothic looking.

The Final Look
Honestly, I was pretty happy with how it turned out! It wasn’t a perfect historical recreation, but I felt like it captured the vibe I was going for. It was dark, dramatic, and definitely had that medieval gothic feel. I even wore it out to a party, and people seemed to like it!
So yeah, that’s my little adventure into medieval gothic fashion. It was super fun to research and put together, and I might even try to make some more pieces to add to my wardrobe. I’m thinking maybe a long, hooded cloak next… We’ll see!
