Hey everyone, so I decided to get a little crafty this Christmas and try making those crystal Christmas trees I’ve been seeing all over the internet. Let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey, but totally worth it in the end!
Getting Started
First, I gathered all the materials. Honestly, figuring out what I needed was half the battle. I ended up using:
- Borax (found it in the laundry aisle, who knew?)
- Boiling water
- Pipe cleaners (green, of course!)
- Wide-mouth jars or containers
- String or fishing line
- Pencils or skewers to hang the trees
Shaping the Trees
Next up, I twisted the pipe cleaners into little Christmas tree shapes. I’m not gonna lie, my first few attempts looked more like sad, green blobs. But I kept at it, and eventually, I got the hang of it. I made a few different sizes, just for fun.
The Waiting Game (aka the Crystal Growing Part)
This is where the magic (or, you know, science) happens. I boiled some water and poured it into my jars. Then, I started adding the Borax, one spoonful at a time, stirring like crazy until it wouldn’t dissolve anymore. It was a lot of Borax! The water looked pretty cloudy, but that’s apparently normal.

I carefully tied string to the top of each pipe cleaner tree and suspended them in the Borax solution, making sure they weren’t touching the sides or bottom of the jar. I used pencils laid across the top of the jars to hold the strings. Then came the hardest part: waiting. I left them overnight, trying not to peek too much.
The Big Reveal!
The next morning, I rushed over the jar,and let see, crystals! It was so cool! I carefully took the trees out, and they were covered in these awesome, sparkly * looked even bytter than I expected.

I let them dry completely on some paper towels, and that was it! My very own crystal Christmas trees. They’re now proudly displayed on my windowsill, adding a little extra sparkle to the holiday season. Totally recommend giving this a try, even if you’re not the craftiest person (like me!). It’s a fun project, and the results are pretty amazing.
