Okay, so I’ve been getting into some witchy stuff lately, and I decided to try making black salt. I’d heard it’s good for protection and banishing negative energy, and who couldn’t use a little more of that, right?

Gathering My Supplies
First, I needed to get my ingredients together. This is what I used:
- Salt: I just used regular table salt, the cheap stuff. Some people use sea salt or fancy stuff, but I figured this would work fine.
- Scrapings from my cast iron skillet: This is where the “black” part comes in. I’ve had this skillet for years, so it’s got a good build-up. I just scraped the bottom and sides with a spatula.
- Charcoal: I used charcoal, too, to add in some black color.
- Black peppercorns: I use peppercorns in my cooking almost everyday! So I got some and grinded them.
- A mortar and pestle: For grinding everything up.
- A small jar: To store the finished product.
The Mixing Process
I started by pouring a good amount of salt into the mortar. Then, I added the cast iron scrapings. Honestly, it was kind of satisfying scraping all that gunk off, it felt like I was already cleaning out some bad vibes, you know?
Next, I add charcoal, and grinded them together. I added it to the mortar and pestle and gave everything a good, long grind. I wanted it to be pretty fine, so I kept going until it looked like a consistent powder, mostly.

I added some of the black peppercorns, and continued to smash it!
The Final Result
Once I was happy with the consistency, I carefully poured the black salt into the little jar. It looked pretty cool, all dark and mysterious. I put the lid on tight, and that was it!
I’ve sprinkled some of the black salt around my front door and on my windowsills. I’m not sure if it’s actually doing anything, but it makes me feel a little more secure, like I’ve put up an extra layer of protection. And even if it’s just a placebo effect, hey, I’ll take it!

It’s easy to make! Give it a try if you like!
