Okay, so I’ve been wanting to revamp my wardrobe lately, and I’ve been super drawn to the gothic aesthetic. Specifically, short gothic dresses. I just think they’re so cool and edgy, but also kinda cute, you know?
So, I started my mission. First, I did a bunch of browsing. I just looked at tons of pictures of different styles. I wanted to get a feel for what was out there and what I liked.
Figuring Out My Style
After the image search, I started to notice some trends in what I was liking. I was leaning toward dresses with:
- Lace: Lots of lace, either as an overlay or just accents.
- Black, obviously: But maybe with some deep red or purple thrown in.
- A-line or skater style: Something that’s fitted at the top and flares out a bit at the bottom. I’m not really into bodycon stuff.
- Some kind of interesting detail: Like buckles, straps, or maybe a corset-style top.
I am trying to have some ideas in my head about what kind of dress.

Time to Find
So, I had to translate all those vague ideas into a real, live dress. That meant trying on a million things. I really test so many styles for gothic!
I found a few that were almost right. One had amazing lace sleeves, but the fit was totally wrong. Another one had the perfect shape, but the material felt super cheap. It’s surprisingly hard to find good quality stuff!
Finally, I looked at the dresses, and the price, the style, and the details, and at last, got two dresses.

- A black velvet dress, and some cute details.
- A simple black dress with lace.
Mission accomplished! I’m so excited to wear my new dresses out. It took some time, but now I feel very successful!
