Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with vintage gothic dresses lately. I decided I had to find one, like, a real one. Not some cheap costume thing.
The Hunt Begins
First, I started by just browsing online. I mean, where else do you start, right? I spent hours scrolling through pictures, trying to get a feel for what I really wanted. There are so many different styles when you dig into it!
- Velvet, lace, silk…so many choices!
- Long sleeves, short sleeves, no sleeves…ugh!
- Some were super elaborate, others were more simple, but still…gothic.
I quickly realized I needed to narrow it down. I decided I wanted something with long sleeves, definitely velvet, and probably black. Classic, you know?
Getting Serious
Then I started hitting up some vintage stores. I figured that was the best way to find something truly authentic. This took a lot of time. I went to every vintage shop in the nearby place, and a few that were even farther away. Honestly, most of them were a bust. Either they didn’t have anything gothic, or it was in terrible condition, or it was way too expensive.

I almost gave up. seriously almost did.
The Real Thing
But then, I found this tiny little shop, kind of hidden away. It was crammed full of stuff, almost overwhelming. I started digging through the racks, and there it was. A gorgeous black velvet dress with long, flowing sleeves and intricate lace details. It was perfect.
I cautiously checked the price tag. It was…reasonable! More than I’d usually spend on a dress, but for a vintage piece in this condition, it was a steal.I tried and felt in love with it immediately.

I bought it, obviously. And I’ve worn it a few times now, always get tons of compliments. It’s my favorite dress ever. Finding it was a lot of work, but totally worth it.
