Okay, so I’ve been super into the gothic fashion scene lately, especially the Japanese take on it. It’s just so fascinating! I decided to dive in and try to put together a look myself. It was, uh, a learning experience, to say the least.
First Steps: Inspiration Gathering
First, I spent like, hours, just scrolling through images. I started with some general searches, then started looking at specific Japanese gothic fashion brands and styles. I looked at Lolita, Visual Kei, and just general street style pics.
The Hunt for Pieces
Then came the hard part – actually finding clothes. I have a few basic black pieces but it was not easy to get all the pieces.
- Tried Local Stores: I went to some, stores hoping to score some basics, like a black skirt or some kind of Victorian-inspired top. It’s harder than it sounds, though. I mean, my usual stores were not exactly.
- Hit Up Some Online Shops: Found some more options there, of course.
Putting it All Together (and Failing a Bit)
Okay, so I finally got some pieces that I thought might work. I had this black, somewhat flowy skirt, a black lace top, and some chunky boots. I even found a pair of really dramatic, black, lace-up gloves. It wasn’t much.

I put it all on, did my makeup – dark eyes, pale skin, the whole deal – and… it was kind of a mess. I mean, it wasn’t terrible, but it definitely wasn’t the elegant, cool look I was going for. The skirt and top didn’t quite match.
I think it was all in a lot of little details that I didn’t really pay attention to. But that is ok, trial and error!
Trying Again (and Getting a Little Closer)
I did a lot of research, and I have ordered some new pieced and accessaries, will update you guys when I tried them on!
