Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “witch bottles” all over my social media, and they look kinda cool, so I figured, why not? I decided to make my own, and document the whole messy, wonderful process.
Gathering My Supplies
First things first, I needed to gather all the stuff. I didn’t want to get too fancy, so I mostly used things I already had around the house or could easily grab from outside.
- A Jar: I used an old, small jam jar. Made sure to wash it out really well first, obviously.
- Salt: Just regular table salt, for protection, I think.
- Herbs: Okay, I had some dried rosemary and bay leaves in the kitchen, so I grabbed those. Rosemary for protection and purification, bay leaves for wishes, or something like that.
- Crystals (Optional): I have a little collection, so I picked out a small clear quartz (for general good vibes) and a piece of black tourmaline (for extra protection, because why not?).
- Other Bits: I also tossed in a few small, shiny pebbles I found in my garden, just because they looked pretty, and a tiny, rusty nail because that is usefull.
- Paper and Pen: To write my intentions, of course.
The Making Part
Once I had everything laid out, I started layering the ingredients into the jar. I started with a layer of salt at the bottom, then added the rosemary and bay leaves. I crushed the bay leaves a little bit in my hands to release the scent, it smelled pretty good.
Next, I placed the crystals on top of the herbs, then carefully added the pebbles around them. I thought about what I wanted the bottle to do – basically, just bring some good energy and protection into my home.

I took the small piece of paper and wrote down my intention: “Protect my home and bring positive energy.” Simple enough. I folded the paper up small and tucked it into the jar with everything else.
Sealing and Finishing
I screwed the lid on tight, really tight. Some people use wax to seal their bottles, but I didn’t have any candles handy, so I just made sure the lid was super secure.
And that was it! My very own, very simple, witch bottle. I placed it on a shelf in my living room, where I can see it every day. Does it work? Who knows! But it was fun to make, and it looks pretty cool, so I’m happy with it. Maybe I’ll try making another one with different ingredients sometime.
