Okay, so today I decided to dive into something totally new for me – Italian witchcraft, or as they call it, “Stregoneria.” I’ve always been curious about different folk magic traditions, and this one has such a rich history. I figured, why not give it a try and see what happens?
Getting Started: Research, Research, Research
First things first, I needed to do some digging. I couldn’t just jump in blind, right? So, I spent the morning reading up on the basics. I looked at some old books and even some websites, just to understand, where to start from.
Gathering My Supplies (or, Making Do with What I Have)
Next up, I needed some basic tools. Now, I didn’t have a lot of fancy stuff on hand, but I figured I could make it work. Here’s what I gathered:
- Candles: Luckily, I have a ton of these lying around. I grabbed a few different colors, figuring it couldn’t hurt.
- Herbs: I raided my spice rack! Found some basil, rosemary, and bay leaves – apparently, those are all pretty common in Italian magic.
- Salt: Easy peasy, just grabbed the regular table salt.
- Olive Oil: Well, I’m Italian-American, so obviously, there’s always olive oil in my kitchen!
- A Bowl of Water: No problem there.
The Actual Practice (and Feeling a Little Silly)
Alright, time for the main event. I decided to try a simple protection ritual I found. It involved lighting a candle, anointing it with olive oil, and sprinkling it with salt and herbs while saying a little prayer/incantation. To be honest, I felt a bit awkward at first, chanting words I didn’t fully understand. But as I focused on the flame and the scent of the herbs, I started to feel a sense of calm. I did it with the best intention.

Then, following what I had seen, I took a drop of oil, and I drew a cross on my forehead, to stay protected. I also poured a little bit of salt and herbs into the water bowl, and I put it outside, so the bad energies, or negative influences couldn’t enter my house.
The Aftermath (and a Surprise?)
After the ritual, I felt…different. I used to feel more at ease. I can’t really explain it, but it was like a weight had been lifted. And, strangely enough, a minor problem I’d been having all week seemed to suddenly resolve itself. Coincidence? Maybe. But it definitely made me think.
Final Thoughts
So, that was my first foray into Italian witchcraft. It was definitely an interesting experience, and I’m curious to learn more. It wasn’t about casting spells or anything dramatic, but more about connecting with nature, intention, and a bit of ancient tradition. I’ll keep exploring and see where this path leads!
