Okay, so I’ve been seeing “gothic chic” all over my Pinterest and TikTok lately, and I had to give it a try. I’m not naturally a super “goth” person, more of a jeans-and-t-shirt kind of girl, but I love experimenting with style, so here’s how my little adventure went.
First Steps: Gathering Inspiration
First, I spent a good hour just scrolling through images. I wanted to figure out what “gothic chic” even means. Is it all black? Spikes and chains? Or is it more subtle? Turns out, it’s kinda… everything. There’s a huge range, from super dramatic, almost costume-y looks, to stuff that’s surprisingly wearable.

The Experiment: Raiding My Closet (and a Little Shopping)
Next, I dove into my own closet to see what I already had. I was surprised! I found a black lace top I’d forgotten about, a flowy black maxi skirt that could definitely work, and a pair of surprisingly sturdy combat boots.
But I was missing some key pieces. So, I hit up a few of my favorite stores, I only brought some, because I didn’t want to blow my budget on a whole new wardrobe. I grabbed:
- A black velvet choker (so cheap, but it adds so much!).
- A long, silver chain necklace with a cool, slightly spooky pendant.

Putting It All Together: My First Gothic Chic Look
Okay, time for the fun part! I started with the basics: the black lace top and the maxi skirt. Alone, they looked a little…blah. But then I added the blazer, and boom! Instant structure. I cinched it with a wide, black belt I already owned to define my waist.
