Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make my own jewelry for a while, and I finally took the plunge! I decided to start with something relatively simple: an aquamarine crystal bracelet. I love the calming blue color of aquamarine, and I thought it would be perfect for a delicate, everyday piece.
First, I gathered my materials. I ordered some genuine aquamarine beads online – I made sure to check the reviews to ensure they were good quality. I also picked up some strong, clear beading elastic, some crimp beads, and crimping pliers. I already had some regular pliers and scissors at home.
Getting Started
I started by laying out the beads on a soft cloth. This helped me visualize the final design and figure out the pattern I wanted. I decided to go with a simple, symmetrical design, just alternating between the larger and smaller aquamarine beads.
- Measuring the Elastic: I wrapped the elastic around my wrist to get a rough estimate of the length I needed, adding a few extra inches for knotting and securing. It’s always better to have too much than too little!
- Stringing the Beads: I carefully threaded the beads onto the elastic, following my pre-planned pattern. This part was actually pretty relaxing, almost meditative.
Securing the Bracelet
This was the trickiest part, but I managed! Once all the beads were on, I double-checked the fit around my wrist. Then, I carefully tied a surgeon’s knot with the elastic. It’s basically like tying your shoelaces, but you loop the elastic through an extra time. I pulled it really tight to make sure it was secure.

Next, I added a crimp bead over the knot. Using the crimping pliers, I squished the crimp bead flat, securing the knot in place. I then used the regular pliers to carefully fold the flattened crimp bead in half, making it even more secure. Finally, I trimmed the excess elastic close to the crimp bead with scissors.
And that was it! My very own aquamarine crystal bracelet. I was pretty proud of myself, to be honest. It wasn’t perfect, but it was handmade, and I loved the way it looked. It’s a simple, beautiful piece, and I’ve been wearing it every day since I made it. I’m already planning my next jewelry project!
