So, I saw this “crystal tree Christmas” thing trending, and, well, I got curious. I’m a sucker for anything sparkly and holiday-themed, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I’m not exactly a crafting expert, but hey, that’s never stopped me before!
Gathering My Supplies
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some stuff. I grabbed:
- A small branch – I just plucked one off a tree in my backyard. Don’t tell anyone.
- Borax – Apparently, this is the magic ingredient. Found it in the laundry aisle.
- Boiling water – Easy enough.
- A wide-mouth jar – Big enough to fit the branch.
- String – To hang the branch.
- A pencil – To suspend the branch over the jar.
- Food coloring(Optional) – for the fun part.
The Mixing and the Waiting
Alright, time to get down to business. I boiled a bunch of water and poured it into the jar. Then, I started dumping in the Borax. I didn’t really measure; I just kept adding it until it stopped dissolving. It got all cloudy and weird, which I took as a good sign.
Then, I added drops of food coloring into the water, mixed a little. It’s a important part, and It makes the tree more wonderful.

I tied the string to the branch, then tied the other end to the pencil. I carefully lowered the branch into the jar, making sure it wasn’t touching the sides or the bottom. The pencil rested across the top of the jar, holding the branch in * then… I waited. And waited. And waited some more. This was definitely the hardest part. It felt like watching paint dry, except, you know, crystals grow.
The Big Reveal!
Okay, so it wasn’t quite 24 hours, more like 12, but I couldn’t wait any longer! I carefully lifted the branch out of the jar, and… wow! It was covered in these sparkly, spiky crystals! It looked like something out of a winter fairy tale. Seriously, it was way cooler than I expected.
I let it dry completely, and now it’s hanging up as my very own, homemade, slightly wonky, crystal Christmas tree. It’s not perfect, but I made it, and that’s what counts. Plus, it’s super sparkly, which instantly makes everything better, right?
Would I do it again? Totally. Maybe I’ll even try different colors next time. Or glitter! Ooh, the possibilities…
