Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with gothic fashion lately. I decided to give it a full-on try, not just dipping my toes in. Here’s how it went down.
Getting Started: The Inspiration
First, I spent, like, a whole afternoon just scrolling through images and blogs about gothic fashion. I was trying to get a feel for the different sub-styles, you know? There’s trad goth, romantic goth, cybergoth… it’s a whole world!

Building the Look: My Closet Dive
Next, I raided my own closet. I already had some black clothes, obviously. But I was looking for specific textures and shapes. I pulled out anything velvet, lace, or even just vaguely Victorian-looking.
- Black velvet dress: check.
- Lace gloves my grandma gave me: surprisingly useful!
- Boots with a million buckles: absolutely.
Shopping Spree (a Little One)
I realized I was missing some key pieces. So, I hit up a few local stores. I wasn’t looking to spend a fortune, just grab a few things to complete the look.
I found a killer long black skirt, and I also snagged some fishnet * was so exciting!
Putting It All Together: The Experimentation
This was the fun part! I spent a good hour just trying on different combinations. I layered the lace gloves under the sleeves of the velvet dress. I paired the long skirt with a tighter black top I already owned. I even messed around with some darker makeup – heavier eyeliner, a deep red lipstick.
I put my hair up in a style.

The Final Result: Feeling Myself
Honestly, I felt amazing. It was a totally different vibe from my usual style, but in a good way. It felt powerful and dramatic, and I really loved the way the different textures and layers came together.
It’s definitely a look I’ll be rocking again. Maybe I’ll even brave wearing it out somewhere fancy! Baby steps, though, right?
