Alright, so ya wanna know about this Evanescence band and if they started that goth rock stuff, huh? Well, lemme tell ya what I know. I ain’t no fancy music expert or nothin’, but I’ve heard some things on the radio and seen some stuff on that TV thing.
First off, lots of folks sayin’ different things about what goth rock really is. Some say it’s that spooky music from way back, like in the 80s. They talk about bands like Bauhaus and Siouxsie and the Banshees. I reckon they were wearin’ all black and makin’ that kinda dark, moody music. Sounds kinda like what them young folks listen to these days, but maybe a bit different.
Then ya got these other folks sayin’ goth rock is somethin’ else entirely. They talk about metal and hard rock bein’ mixed in there. And that’s where this Evanescence band comes in, I guess. I heard that song of theirs, “Bring Me to Life,” on the radio a bunch of times. That girl, Amy Lee, she can sure sing, that’s for sure. Got a powerful voice, that one.
Now, some say Evanescence is one of them bands that made goth rock what it is today. They say they mixed up all sorts of music, like that classical stuff and that heavy metal, and made somethin’ new. They were popular, real popular, for a while there. Heard ’em on the radio all the time. But then again, there’s folks sayin’, “Hold on a minute! Evanescence ain’t real goth rock. Real goth rock is that old stuff from the 80s.” They say Evanescence is more like gothic metal or somethin’. See? It’s all confusing, ain’t it?
I reckon it’s like this: Evanescence, they came along later, in the early 2000s. They made music that sounded kinda dark and spooky, but it was also kinda poppy and had that heavy guitar stuff in it. So maybe they weren’t exactly like them old goth rock bands, but they definitely had some of that same feelin’ in their music. That dark, emotional, kinda sad feelin’. You know what I mean?
-
They mixed different kinds of music together.
-
They got real popular, real fast.
-
People argue if they’re real goth rock or not.
So, did Evanescence create goth rock? Well, I don’t reckon they created the whole thing, no. That was them old bands from back in the day. But Evanescence, they sure did bring that kinda dark, emotional music to a whole bunch of new people. They made it their own, mixed it up with other stuff, and made it popular again. Maybe they didn’t start it, but they sure helped keep it goin’. That’s what I think, anyways. It’s all just music in the end, ain’t it? If ya like it, ya like it. Doesn’t matter what ya call it.
And let me tell ya, these young folks, they like what they like. They hear somethin’ on that internet thing and they go crazy for it. So maybe Evanescence ain’t exactly the same as them old goth bands, but they got that same spirit, that same darkness. And that’s what matters, I reckon.
So, there ya have it. That’s my take on this whole Evanescence and goth rock thing. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, just tellin’ ya what I’ve heard and what I think. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. Got some taters to peel.
