Creating Witchy Digital Art: A Step-by-Step Guide to Dark Aesthetic

Okay, so I wanted to mess around with creating some cool, witchy-themed images. I’ve been seeing all this awesome digital art online, and I figured, why not give it a shot myself? Here’s how it all went down.

Getting Started

First, I needed to figure out what I wanted to make. I’m really into the whole “dark academia” aesthetic, with a touch of magic, so I decided on a few concepts:

  • A mysterious potion brewing in a dimly lit room.
  • A spellbook open to a page with glowing runes.
  • A witch’s familiar, a black cat with piercing green eyes.

The Process

I started playing around with different keywords. Stuff like “glowing potion,” “ancient spellbook,” “witchcraft aesthetic,” and “black cat familiar.”

I spent a good chunk of time just tweaking the prompts. Changing a word here, adding a detail there. It’s kinda like a puzzle, figuring out the right combination of words to get what you’re picturing in your head.

For the potion: I really wanted that bubbling, smoky effect. So I tried adding phrases like “bubbling cauldron,” “mystical smoke,” and “eerie glow.”

For the spellbook: To get that glowing rune look, I played with words like “incandescent,” “illuminated,” and “ancient script.” It took a few tries to make the runes look like they were actually part of the page, not just floating on top.

For the familiar: Getting the cat’s eyes right was the trickiest part! I wanted them to look intense and magical, not just like a regular cat. Descriptors such as, “glowing eyes”, “piercing gaze”, were inputed.

My Results!

I was super stoked with how some of these turned out! It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely way cooler than anything I could draw by hand. The potion one has this awesome, spooky vibe, and the cat’s eyes are seriously mesmerizing.

It’s really addictive, though! I spent hours just generating image after image, trying to get each one just right. Definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon.
