Top Gothic Fashion Types: A Beginners Guide!

Exploring Gothic Fashion: Types, Styles & How to Find Your Look

Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into the world of gothic fashion lately. It’s way more diverse than I initially thought! I started out thinking it was all just black clothes and heavy makeup, but boy, was I wrong. I wanted to really understand the different types, so I did some serious digging and experimenting. Here’s how it all went down.

My Gothic Fashion Exploration

First, I hit up online stores and blogs. I looked at a ton of pictures and read articles to get a basic sense of the different styles. I wanted a general idea, not some stuffy textbook definition.

Then, I started playing around with what I already had in my closet. Lots of black, obviously, but I also found some deep reds, purples, and even some white pieces that I thought could work. I started mixing and matching stuff to see what felt right.

  • Traditional Goth: This was my starting point. Lots of black velvet, lace, and fishnets. I already had a few pieces like this, so it was easy to put together a basic Trad Goth look. It felt a little too…costumey for everyday wear, though.
  • Romantic Goth: This one is all about flowy fabrics, corsets, and Victorian-inspired pieces. I borrowed a friend’s corset (thanks, Sarah!) and paired it with a long, black skirt I had. I felt super elegant, like I should be attending a vampire ball or something.
  • Cyber Goth: Okay, this one was a bit out of my comfort zone. It’s all about neon colors, futuristic accessories, and industrial elements. I didn’t have much that fit this style, so I picked up a few cheap neon accessories to experiment with. It was fun, but definitely not my everyday style.
  • Pastel Goth: This one was a surprise! It mixes traditional goth elements with pastel colors like pink, lavender, and baby blue. I found a black skirt with a pastel pink print, and I paired it with a black top and some chunky boots. It felt cute but still edgy. This is one I could see myself wearing more often.

After trying out these different styles, I realized that gothic fashion is more about the overall vibe and attitude than sticking to strict rules. It is the expression for yourself. I learned I could take elements from different types and combine them to create my own unique look.

I can mix the romantic styles’s elegance with some pastel * is my jam!

It’s been a really fun journey, and I’m still learning and experimenting. I definitely feel more confident expressing myself through my clothes now. And that, my friends, is the whole point, right?
