Okay, so I’ve been seeing “Catholic Gothic Fashion” trending, and honestly, I was intrigued. I’m not religious, but the aesthetic? Killer. So I decided to give it a shot, see if I could pull it off. Here’s how it went down:
First Steps: Getting Inspired
First, I scrolled through a ton of pictures online. I mean, a TON. I wanted to get a feel for the vibe, you know? It’s all dark colors, lace, crosses, and kind of a Victorian/medieval thing going on. I quickly realized there is a lot of cross imagery in the design.
The Hunt: Finding the Pieces
Next, I hit up some thrift stores. Seriously, best place for this kind of stuff. I was looking for anything black, obviously. Long skirts, lace tops, maybe a velvet jacket if I got lucky. I even checked out the Halloween section, because, why not?
- I scored a long, black, lacy skirt. It was a little ripped, but that just added to the vibe.
- I also found a black velvet top with these big, dramatic sleeves. Super extra, I loved it.
- No luck on a jacket, but I did find a silver cross necklace. It was kinda tarnished, which was perfect.
Putting it Together: The First Try
Back home, I threw everything on. The skirt, the top, the necklace. I even dug out some old black boots I had. I looked in the mirror… and it was… okay. Something was missing.
Adding the Details: Making it Work
I realized I needed more layers. So I added a black, lacy shawl I had. That helped. Then I tried some darker makeup. I’m no makeup artist, but I smudged some black eyeliner around and put on some dark red lipstick. Way better.
I added simple black nail polish to go with the outfit’s look and feel.
The Final Look: Feeling the Vibe
Finally, I felt like I was getting somewhere. It wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely Catholic Gothic. I took some pictures, played around with the lighting, and you know what? I actually really liked it.

It’s definitely a bold look, but it’s fun to experiment. And honestly, the best part was the hunt for the clothes. Thrift store adventures are always a good time. If this style interest you, try it out!
