Gothic Summer Fashion Trends 2024: Beat the Heat in Style!

Gothic Summer Fashion 2024: Trends, Tips & Styling Ideas for Dark Vibes

Okay, so I’ve been seeing “gothic summer fashion” all over my socials lately, and I was like, “I gotta try this.” I’m not usually a goth girl, but the whole dark and mysterious vibe in the summer heat? Intriguing, to say the least.

My Gothic Summer Fashion Experiment

First, I scrolled through a ton of pictures online. You know, just to get a feel for what “gothic summer” even means. It seemed like a mix of black clothes, obviously, but with lighter fabrics and maybe some lace or mesh thrown in. Think Wednesday Addams on vacation.

Next, I raided my closet. I didn’t want to buy a whole new wardrobe, so I tried to work with what I had. I found a black, flowy maxi skirt that I usually wear to, like, art gallery openings. It’s kinda dressy, but I figured it could work.

  • Found: Black maxi skirt (score!)
  • Found: A black lace top I’d totally forgotten about.
  • Missing: Anything remotely resembling “summer goth” accessories.

I paired found black lace top and black maxi skirt. Looked OK, but was way too…formal. Like I was going to a funeral, not a picnic. Oops.

Then I remembered this black mesh top I bought ages ago and never wore. I layered that over a simple black tank top, and it instantly made things more interesting. The mesh added some texture and that “I’m-trying-but-not-too-hard” vibe.

Accessories were tough. I don’t own any skull necklaces or anything. I ended up wearing some simple silver hoop earrings and a chunky silver ring. I also added my black combat boots, which I figured were goth enough.

Makeup-wise, I went for a dark smoky eye and a deep red lipstick. I usually do a more natural look, so this felt pretty dramatic for me. I skipped the foundation because, hello, it’s summer and I’m not trying to melt.

Finally, I took some pictures in my backyard. The sun was setting, which gave everything a nice, moody glow. I felt pretty good! It was definitely different from my usual style, but I liked the edginess of it. It felt kinda powerful, you know?

It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. I might try incorporating some more summery elements next time, like maybe a black floral dress or some black sandals. Or maybe I’ll just embrace the full-on darkness. We’ll see. It’s all about experimenting, right?
