Okay, so today I messed around with creating a “Fashion Gothic Era” look. It was a bit of a journey, so let me walk you through it.
Getting Started
First, I dug through my closet. I was looking for anything dark, obviously – black, deep reds, maybe some purples. I found a few things that could work: a long black velvet skirt I’d almost forgotten about, a lace top that was a bit more on the romantic side, and some chunky boots.
Experimenting with the Pieces
I started trying things on. The skirt was a definite yes. It had that dramatic, flowing vibe I was going for. The lace top was okay, but it felt a little too… sweet? I needed something with a bit more edge.
I remembered I had a black corset belt, so I threw that on over the lace top. Much better! It instantly gave the outfit a more structured, gothic feel. I also added a long, black cardigan – it was a bit oversized, which added to the dramatic look I wanted.
Accessorizing
Accessories are key, right? I rummaged through my jewelry box and found a silver chain with a cross pendant. Classic. I also added a few silver rings, some with darker stones. I kept the jewelry relatively simple, though. I didn’t want it to be too distracting.

- Silver rings: Added a bit of subtle detail.
- Chunky boots: Grounded the outfit and gave it some weight.
- Dark lipstick: Completed the look.
Makeup and Hair
For makeup, I went for a smoky eye. Nothing too crazy, just some dark grays and blacks blended out. I also used a bit of black eyeliner. And, of course, dark lipstick. I chose a deep burgundy shade.
My hair is naturally pretty straight, so I just left it down. I thought about adding some waves or curls, but I decided to keep it simple. I wanted the focus to be on the clothes and the overall vibe.
The Final Look
I stepped back and took a look. I was pretty happy with it! It definitely had that “Fashion Gothic Era” feel – dark, romantic, and a little bit dramatic. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a fun experiment. I think with a few tweaks, it could be even better. Maybe a different top, or some more elaborate jewelry… who knows! It’s all about playing around and finding what works.
