Alright, let’s talk about these gothic black and red nails, you know, the kind them young folks are wearin’ these days. I saw a picture, looked kinda like somethin’ a witch might wear, all dark and fancy.
First off, the shape, they sayin’ somethin’ ’bout “square shape.” Now, I ain’t no expert, but it looks like, well, a square, you know? Not round like my old fingernails, but straight and pointy-like. They say it makes the nails look strong, good for parties or whatever them youngsters do for fun.
Then there’s the colors, black and red. Black like the night sky out here in the country, and red like… well, like them ripe tomatoes I grow in the summer. They put ’em together on them nails, sometimes with little swirls and whatnots. They call it “intricate lace patterns,” sounds fancy, but it just looks like lines and dots to me.

Black nail polish, that’s the dark one. Reminds me of the dirt under my nails after a day in the garden. But on them, it looks… shiny, I guess.

Red nail polish, now that’s a color I recognize. We used to paint the barn that color, a long time ago. They say it means somethin’, “confidence” and “boldness,” they say. Sounds like a rooster crowin’ at sunrise to me!
And get this, they stickin’ things on their nails now! Little gems, they call ’em, and some even look like teeth or skulls! Can you believe it? “3D details,” they say. Sounds like somethin’ from a scary movie. I remember when we just used to paint our nails with whatever we had around, if we painted them at all.
Now, I heard tell that the color of your nails should match your clothes. If you’re wearin’ a black dress, they say you can wear almost any color on your nails, even red or somethin’ shiny. If you’re wearin’ white, like a bride, they say you should wear somethin’ light, like pink or green. But honestly, I just wear whatever I find in the drawer, and 2 days, that’s nothin’ at all. Workin’ on a farm ain’t exactly a fashion show, you know?
Them gothic nails, they ain’t for me, that’s for sure. Too much fuss, too much dark color. But them young folks, they seem to like ’em. They wear ’em to parties, or just out and about. I guess it’s their way of expressin’ themselves, just like how I express myself by growin’ the best darn tomatoes in the county.
It’s a different world now, ain’t it? We used to be happy with clean hands and maybe a little bit of clear polish if we were feelin’ fancy. Now they got these long, square nails with all sorts of colors and decorations. Times change, I guess. And while I might not understand it all, I can appreciate a bit of creativity, even if it looks a little spooky to me.
So, if you’re into that gothic style, go ahead and paint your nails black and red. Stick some gems on ’em, make ’em pointy, do whatever makes you happy. Just remember to keep ’em clean, ’cause dirt don’t look good on nobody, no matter how fancy their nails are.
And one more thing, if you’re gonna wear them gothic black and red nails, make sure you can still do your chores! Can’t be havin’ long nails gettin’ in the way of milkin’ the cows or pickin’ the vegetables, now can we? There’s a time for fancy, and a time for work, and around here, workin’ hands are happy hands.
