Okay, so I've been seeing these amethyst crystal bracelets everywhere lately, and I finally caved. I wanted to see what the hype was about, and, honestly, I just thought they looked pretty. So, I decided to make my own! Here's how it went down:
Gathering My Supplies
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some stuff. I went to this little bead shop I found downtown. It was a pretty interesting place with more beads and crystals than I thought.
- Amethyst beads: I chose a variety of sizes and shades of purple, some darker, some lighter. I just picked what I liked.
- Stretch cord: This is the elastic string that holds the bracelet together. I got a clear one, nothing too thick.
- Scissors: Gotta cut the cord, obviously.
- (Optional) A bead board: This helps you lay out your design before you string it, but I just used my desk. No biggie.

Getting Started: The Design
I didn't have a super specific design in mind. I just knew I wanted a mix of the different amethyst beads. I laid them out on my desk and played around with the order until I thought it looked good. This part took a little while, I kept changing my mind!
Stringing the Beads
This was the fun part! I cut a piece of the stretch cord, making sure it was long enough to fit around my wrist with some extra room for tying. Then, I just started stringing the beads onto the cord, one by one, following the pattern I'd laid out.
Tip from my experience: Don't make the cord too tight as you go. Leave a little bit of slack so the bracelet has some give and won't snap when you put it on.
Tying It Off
Once all the beads were on, it was time to tie the knot. I'm no knot expert, but I did a simple surgeon's knot. Basically, you just tie a regular overhand knot, then loop one end through the loop again before pulling it tight. I did this a few times, just to be extra sure it wouldn't come undone.
Another tip: Pull the knot really tight. Like, as tight as you can without breaking the cord. Then, I trimmed the extra cord close to the knot, but not too close, so it wouldn't unravel.

The Finished Product!
And that's it! My very own amethyst crystal bracelet. It turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. It's comfortable, it looks nice, and I made it, which is always a cool feeling. Even if I don't fully buy into the whole "crystal energy" thing, it's a nice reminder to take a moment and appreciate the little things. I feel a pretty strong sense of calm now.
