Okay, so the other day I was thinking, “Everyone knows trad goth, but what else is out there?” I mean, trad goth is cool and all – the big hair, the dark clothes, you know the drill. But I wanted to see what other flavors of goth existed. So, I started digging.
My Deep Dive into Goth Styles
First, I just started by remembering what I’d seen before. Obviously, I knew the basics. So I thought, “Okay, there’s gotta be more than just that.” I opened up a new note on my phone and just jotted down a few style names I’d heard tossed around:
- Romantic Goth
- Cyber Goth
- Pastel Goth
Then I searched up each of these names, one by one. I really wanted pictures, visuals, you know? So I looked at tons of images. I was trying to get a feel for the vibe of each one.
Romantic Goth, for instance, looked like it was all about velvet, lace, and kind of a Victorian feel. Lots of long, flowy dresses and darker, richer colors. I kept notes in my phone like “think old-timey vampires,” because that’s what it made me think of.
Then I moved onto Cyber Goth. Woah, total opposite! This was all bright neon colors mixed with black. Lots of industrial-looking stuff, goggles, and things that looked like they came straight out of a sci-fi movie. I wrote down “think futuristic, but still dark”.
Next up, Pastel Goth. This one was a little confusing at first. It’s like…cute, but also spooky? Lots of pastel pinks, purples, and blues, but mixed with things like skulls, crosses, and bats. My notes for this one were along the lines of “creepy-cute, think spooky dolls.”
After all that looking,I felt like I had a much better handle on the different types of goth styles. It’s not just all about the classic black and white look. There’s a whole spectrum of styles!
