Okay, so I’ve been seeing “Neo Gothic” fashion popping up all over my feeds lately, and I was like, “I gotta try this.” It looks so cool, all dark and mysterious, but also kinda modern. So, I dove in headfirst.

My Neo Gothic Experiment
First, I scrolled through a ton of pictures online. Pinterest, Instagram, you name it. I wanted to get a good feel for what exactly is Neo Gothic. It’s not just about throwing on a black dress and calling it a day. There’s more to it.
I noticed a few key things:
- Lots of black, obviously. But also deep reds, purples, and even some dark greens.
- Texture is important. Think velvet, lace, leather (or faux leather, in my case).
- Modern silhouettes. It’s not about looking like you stepped out of a Victorian novel. It’s about clean lines, interesting cuts, and a contemporary feel.
- Accessories matter. Chunky boots, silver jewelry, maybe a dark lip.
Next, I raided my closet. I already had a few pieces that I thought might work. A black velvet skirt, a flowy black top with some lace detailing, and a pair of chunky black boots that I practically live in.

I started experimenting. I tried the skirt with the top, but it felt a little too…costumey. Then I swapped the top for a simple black turtleneck. Better! It felt more modern and less like I was trying too hard.
Then, I added the boots. Definitely a good move. They grounded the look and gave it that edgy vibe I was going for. I also found a silver chain necklace that I thought added a nice touch.
For makeup, I kept it pretty simple. A little bit of eyeliner, some mascara, and a dark berry lipstick. I didn’t want to go full-on goth makeup, just a hint of darkness.

Finally, I took some pictures. It’s the only way to really see how it all comes together, right? I played around with different poses and lighting until I got a few shots I liked.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! It’s definitely a look I’ll be wearing again. It’s fun, it’s a little bit different, and it makes me feel confident. And honestly, that’s what fashion is all about, right?
