Okay, so I’ve been seeing “gothic fashion” all over my Pinterest and TikTok lately, and I was like, “What the heck even is that?” I mean, I thought I knew, but then I saw so many different styles being called “gothic” that I realized I needed to do some digging.

My Deep Dive into Gothic Fashion
First, I hit up Google. Just a basic search, you know? “What is gothic fashion.” And wow, it’s a lot. It’s not just one thing, which is what I kinda thought. There’s a whole bunch of sub-styles, each with their own vibe.
I started making a list, just to keep things straight in my head:
- Traditional Goth: This seems to be the “original” goth look. Think lots of black, velvet, lace, and maybe some crosses or ankhs. Very dramatic.
- Romantic Goth: This one’s a bit softer, more flowy. Still lots of black, but with maybe some deep reds or purples mixed in. Think Victorian-era vibes.
- Cyber Goth: Okay, this one is wild. It’s like goth meets futuristic rave. Lots of neon colors mixed with black, crazy hair, and industrial-looking accessories.
- Pastel Goth: This is the one that really threw me for a loop. It’s like, cute and creepy at the same time. Think baby pink and black, with maybe some spooky imagery like skulls or bats.
After I got a handle on the different types, I started looking at pictures. Pinterest was a goldmine, obviously. I created a new board and started pinning everything that caught my eye. I tried to find examples of each sub-style, just to get a better feel for them.

Then, I decided to try putting together some gothic-inspired outfits myself. I don’t have a ton of black clothes, honestly, but I managed to find a few things that worked. I found a black lace top, a long black skirt, and some chunky boots. I even added a silver cross necklace that I’ve had forever.
Experiment time!
I tried on the outfit and… I actually kinda liked it! It felt a little dramatic for every day, but definitely fun. I took some pictures and posted them on my Instagram story, just to see what my friends thought. I have received a lot of message from my friends.
So, yeah, that’s my journey into gothic fashion so far. I’m still learning, but it’s been super interesting. It’s way more diverse than I ever realized, and there’s definitely a style out there for everyone.I planed to learn and try more.
