Alright, listen up, y’all. You wanna learn how to make them smelly candles, the ones that make your house smell all nice and purdy? Well, I’m gonna tell ya, it ain’t rocket science, but it ain’t exactly like boilin’ water neither. You gotta pay attention, ya hear?
First off, you gotta get yourself some wax. Now, there’s all kinds of wax out there, like soy wax, beeswax, paraffin wax… Don’t get your britches in a twist about it. Just pick one. I hear that soy wax is good for beginners, so maybe start with that. It’s all about learnin’, see? You ain’t gonna get it perfect the first time, no sir. They say you gotta make like, 84 candles before you really get the hang of it. 84! That’s a whole lotta candles. But don’t you go frettin’ about that now. Just make a few and see how it goes.

Pick your wax. Soy, bees, whatever. Just pick one.

Get yourself some wicks. Not too big, not too small. Just right. Like Goldilocks and the three bears, you know? If your flame’s too small, get a bigger wick. If it’s too big, well, you messed up, didn’t ya? Try a smaller one next time.

Find some jars or containers. Old jelly jars work just fine. Don’t go spendin’ a fortune on fancy stuff. We ain’t made of money, ya know.
Okay, now for the smelly part. You gotta get yourself some scents. They call ’em fragrance oils, but I just call ’em smell-good stuff. You can get ’em online, or at them craft stores. They got all kinds of smells, like flowers, and fruits, and even that pumpkin spice stuff that everyone goes crazy for in the fall. Pick a smell you like, that’s all that matters. Don’t listen to nobody else tellin’ you what smells good. Your nose knows best.
Now, you gotta melt that wax. You can use a double boiler, or just put a pot in a bigger pot with some water in it. Don’t put the wax straight on the stove, or you’ll burn it and stink up the whole house. And don’t go meltin’ it in the microwave neither. That’s just askin’ for trouble. Melt it slow and easy, like you’re makin’ gravy.
Once the wax is all melted, you gotta add your smell-good stuff. How much? Well, that depends. Them fancy folks will tell you to measure it all precise, but I just eyeball it. A little bit for a weak smell, a lotta bit for a strong smell. You’ll figure it out. Just don’t go overboard, or your candle will smell like a perfume factory exploded.
Then, you gotta stick your wick in the jar. You can use a little bit of glue or tape to hold it in place. Make sure it’s in the center, or your candle will burn all wonky. And for goodness sake, don’t pour hot wax into a cold jar cause it might crack, warm them jars up a little first.
Now, the pourin’. Pour that melted wax into the jar, slow and steady. Don’t go spillin’ it all over the place. And don’t fill it all the way to the top, leave a little bit of room. Let it cool down and harden up. This takes a few hours, so go do somethin’ else. Watch some TV, read a book, gossip with your neighbor, whatever.
Once it’s all hard, you can trim the wick. Just snip it off so it’s about a quarter of an inch long. And that’s it, you made a candle! See? I told you it wasn’t that hard. Now, go light it up and make your house smell purdy. And if it don’t work out perfect the first time, don’t you go cryin’ about it. Just try again. Like I said, you gotta make a whole bunch of these things before you get good at it.
Now, some folks will tell you all sorts of fancy tricks and tips, but I say keep it simple. Don’t go gettin’ all stressed out about it. Candle makin’ is supposed to be fun, not a chore. So relax, have a good time, and make some smelly candles. And if you mess up, well, who cares? Just throw it away and start over. Nobody’s perfect, especially not when they’re first startin’ out.
