Okay, so I’ve been invited to a wedding, and the dress code is “gothic.” I’ve never really done the whole gothic thing before, so I was kind of lost. This is my journey into finding the perfect gothic dress as a wedding guest!
The Initial Panic
First, I panicked. My closet is full of, like, floral prints and bright colors. Not exactly gothic. I started by googling “gothic dresses for wedding guests,” just to get a general idea of what I was even looking for.
Digging Deeper
Then, I spent a good hour just scrolling through images. I noticed a lot of black lace, velvet, and deep reds. There were some seriously intense dresses, like, full-on Victorian mourning gowns. I knew I wanted something elegant, but also something I could actually dance in. I also didn’t want to look like I was trying to upstage the bride, you know?
Narrowing It Down
I decided to focus on a few key elements:
- Color: Black seemed like the safest bet, but a deep burgundy or emerald green could also work.
- Fabric: Lace or velvet felt appropriately gothic, but I also considered a heavier satin.
- Silhouette: I wanted something that flattered my figure, probably an A-line or a fit-and-flare style. Nothing too revealing, because, wedding.
- Length: Midi or maxi length felt right. I wasn’t feeling a short gothic dress for a wedding.
The Shopping Spree (or Online Scrolling)
I spent the next few days browsing some online, looking for dresses. I added a bunch of options to my virtual cart, just to keep track of them. It was tough! I found some that were gorgeous but way too expensive, and others that were just… not quite right.
The “Aha!” Moment
Finally, I found it! It was a beautiful black, lace midi dress. It had long sleeves, but they were sheer lace, so it didn’t feel too heavy. The skirt had a slight A-line shape, and the neckline was high, but not stuffy. It was perfect! It felt gothic enough for the dress code, but still elegant and appropriate for a wedding guest.
Accessorizing the Look
I paired the dress with some simple black heels and a delicate silver necklace with a dark stone. I’m also thinking of doing a slightly darker eye makeup look than usual, maybe a smoky eye, and a deep red lipstick. I have simple earrings that will work.
I tried on the whole outfit. I was very happy with the final result. I think I successfully navigated the “gothic” dress code without going overboard. Mission accomplished!
