Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “gothic fashion men” thing trending, and I was like, “Alright, let’s give this a shot.” I’m no fashion guru, but hey, experimentation is fun, right?
Phase 1: The Deep Dive (aka Googling)
First things first, I needed to figure out what gothic fashion even is for guys. I hit up Google Images, and wow, it’s a whole spectrum. You got your super dramatic, almost vampire-esque looks, and then some more subtle, modern takes. I spent a good hour just scrolling, saving pictures of stuff that I thought I could maybe, possibly, pull off.
Phase 2: Closet Raid
Next up, I rummaged through my own closet. I mean, I figured I had to have something that could work. Turns out, I own a lot more black than I realized. Black jeans? Check. Black t-shirts? Double-check. A slightly-too-big black button-down I bought on a whim? Bingo.
- Black Jeans (skinny-ish, but not like, painted-on skinny)
- Various Black T-shirts (some plain, some with band logos)
- Oversized Black Button-Down
- Black Boots (Docs, because of course)
- A silver chain thing I found in a drawer
Phase 3: Putting it Together (and Feeling Awkward)
This is where things got interesting. I started trying on different combos. The black jeans and a black t-shirt were easy. I added the boots, and it felt…okay. A little plain, maybe? I tried the oversized button-down, unbuttoned, over the t-shirt. Better! It added some, I don’t know, flow to the whole thing.

I was going with look and not feel.
Phase 4: Accessorize (or Don’t)
I remembered that silver chain I found. I tried it around my neck. Nope. Too much. I tried it hanging from my belt loop…still a bit much for me. I decided to keep it simple. Sometimes, less is more, you know?
Phase 5: The Verdict
So, after all that, did I achieve “gothic fashion”? Maybe a very, very toned-down version. It was more like “goth-lite.” But you know what? I actually kind of liked it. It was different, a little edgy, and definitely outside my usual style. I felt a little self-conscious at first, but I wore it out to grab coffee, and nobody gave me any weird looks. Success! I added a pin, which is a skull, I like it!

Would I do it again? Yeah, probably. Maybe I’ll even get brave enough to try some of those more dramatic looks eventually. But for now, baby steps. This whole “gothic fashion men” thing? Consider it explored…slightly.
