Okay, so I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect prom dress, and I’ve decided to go with a gothic style. Let me tell you, it’s been a journey!
First, I scrolled through tons of online stores. I mean, tons. I looked at so many dresses, my eyes started to hurt. I saved a bunch of pictures of dresses I liked, mostly black ones, of course, with lace or velvet details. Some had cool corset-style tops, others had flowy skirts. It was overwhelming!
My Style Ideas
- Lots of Black, maybe with some deep red or purple.
- Lace, velvet, or even some satin.
- Something with a bit of drama, you know?
Then, I hit up some local shops. That was a whole different experience. Trying things on, feeling the fabrics…it really helped me narrow down what I wanted. I realized I’m not a huge fan of super-tight dresses, and I definitely need something I can dance in.
I tried on one dress that was almost perfect – black lace, long sleeves, a bit of a train…but the neckline was all wrong. Another one had the perfect neckline, but the skirt was too poofy. It’s tough!

So, after all that searching and trying on, I finally found “the one”. It’s a long, black velvet dress with a fitted bodice and a slightly flared skirt. It has some delicate lace details around the neckline and sleeves, and it even has a subtle slit up the side. It’s dramatic, but not too over-the-top. It’s just…perfect.
I paired the dress with some chunky black boots and some silver jewelry, and wow. I feel like a gothic princess. Or maybe a vampire queen. Either way, I’m ready for prom!
