Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “gothic style fashion male” thing popping up all over my Pinterest and TikTok lately. I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I mean, my style is pretty basic, so this was going to be a journey.
The Deep Dive (aka Pinterest Black Hole)
First things first, I needed to figure out what this even means. I spent, no joke, like three hours just scrolling through images. I started a new Pinterest board just for this experiment. Lots of black, obviously. Leather, boots, long coats… it was a whole vibe.
The Closet Raid
Next, I attacked my own closet. I don’t own a lot of black, surprisingly. I did find a black button-down shirt that I usually wear for, like, job interviews. I also had a pair of black jeans that were kinda faded, but I figured that might actually work for the “worn” look.

The “Borrowing” Phase
I knew I needed more. So, I “borrowed” (with permission, of course) a long, black, kinda drapey cardigan from my roommate. It looked like something a vampire might wear to a coffee shop. Perfect.
Putting It All Together (and Feeling Awkward)
Okay, so here’s what I threw on:
- The faded black jeans.
- The black button-down shirt (left unbuttoned).
- A plain black t-shirt underneath.
- My roommate’s vampire cardigan.
- My regular black boots (they’re kinda chunky, so that worked).
Honestly, I felt a little ridiculous at first. Like I was trying too hard. I walked around my apartment for a bit, trying to get used to the feeling. It was definitely different.
The Test Run
I decided the best test was to show off my dressup to my friends.

The reactions were…mixed. Some were super into it, others were just confused. One friend said I looked like I was going to a funeral, which, fair * main feedback I got was that I needed, Accessories.
Accessorizing!
Back to researching I go, to find some accessories to add to my look. Rings, Chains, Bracelets and a whole lot more. I found some rings I had and added them.
This makes the look a lot better.

The Verdict?
It was fun to try something totally out of my comfort zone. Would I wear this every day? Probably not. But I might incorporate some elements, like the all-black thing, into my regular style. Maybe I’ll even keep “borrowing” that cardigan…
I kept trying different combinations of my clothes and it was a blast. Although I won’t be rocking full goth everyday, I will start mixing and matching.
