Okay, so I’ve been seeing “gothic fashion” trending all over my socials, and, you know, I kinda wanted to give it a shot. It always looked so cool, but also intimidating. Where do you even start?
First, I hit up Pinterest. Seriously, that place is a goldmine. I just searched “gothic fashion” and fell down a rabbit hole of images. I started saving anything that caught my eye – different outfits, makeup looks, accessory ideas… everything.
After, like, an hour of scrolling, I noticed some common threads:
- Lots of black, obviously.
- Lace, velvet, and leather.
- Corsets (yikes, maybe I’ll ease into that one).
- Boots. Big, chunky boots.
- Silver jewelry.
- Dark, dramatic makeup.
My Baby Steps into the Abyss
I did have to face the truth… My current wardrobe? Not very gothic. I mean a lot of this stuff is just, I have to buy it.
I decided to start small. I already owned a pair of black boots, so that was a win.I went online, browsed used clothing, and second-hand apps. I managed to find a black lace top for pretty cheap. Score!
The next day, I paired the lace top with a black skirt I already owned, and the boots, of course. I even tried some darker lipstick and eyeliner. It wasn’t full-on goth, but it was a start. It felt…different. Kinda cool, actually.
Experimenting with Makeup
Makeup was the next frontier. I’m no makeup artist, so I kept it simple. I watched a few YouTube tutorials for “gothic makeup looks” and picked one that seemed doable. Dark eyeshadow, winged eyeliner, pale foundation, and dark lipstick. I may have messed up the eyeliner a few (dozen) times, but hey, practice makes perfect, right?
Adding Some Accessories
Jewelry seemed like an easy way to add more of a gothic vibe. I ordered some inexpensive silver rings and a necklace with a cross pendant online. I found that even these small additions made a big difference.
The Final Look (For Now)
Okay, so I’m not going to be starring in a vampire movie anytime soon. But I feel like I’ve successfully dipped my toes into the gothic fashion world. I’m taking it slow, incorporating elements into my everyday style. It’s been fun to experiment and step outside my comfort zone. Who knows, maybe I’ll even try a corset someday. (But no promises.)
This whole thing has been a process. It’s not about instantly transforming, but about exploring and finding what works for me. And that’s what fashion should be about, right?
