Ask Witchcraft Reddit: Get Answers to Your Magic Questions

Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “witchcraft” thing popping up all over Reddit lately. It’s kinda intriguing, so I figured I’d poke around and see what all the fuss is about. I’m not really a “believer” in this stuff, but hey, why not keep an open mind, right?

First, I just straight-up searched “witchcraft” on Reddit. Big surprise, there are a ton of subreddits about it. r/witchcraft is the obvious one, but then there are others like r/spells, r/realwitchcraft, and even some for specific types of witchcraft, like r/kitchenwitch. It’s a whole world!

I started by lurking in r/witchcraft. Just reading posts, you know? People were talking about all sorts of things: spells, rituals, crystals, tarot cards… the whole nine yards. It was a bit overwhelming at first, I’m not gonna lie. So many new terms and concepts.

I decided to narrow my focus a bit. I’ve always been kinda interested in crystals, so I checked out some posts about those. People were talking about how different crystals have different energies and how to use them for things like protection or healing. Seemed pretty harmless, and some of the crystals were really pretty, so I figured, what the heck, I’ll try something simple.

My Super Simple “Experiment”

I found a post suggesting using clear quartz for “clarity.” I happen to have a little piece of clear quartz I got at a rock show years ago, so I thought, “Perfect!”

  • Step 1: Find the Crystal. Dug it out of my junk drawer. Easy peasy.
  • Step 2: “Cleanse” It. The post said to run it under cold water and visualize any negative energy washing away. I did that. Felt kinda silly, but whatever.
  • Step 3: “Program” It. Apparently, you’re supposed to hold the crystal and focus on what you want it to help you with. So, I held it and thought really hard about needing to focus on work. I was feeling pretty scattered that day.
  • Step 4: Carry It Around. I just put it in my pocket.

Did it work? Honestly, I don’t know. I did have a slightly more productive afternoon than I expected, but was it the crystal? Could have just been a good day. Could have been the placebo effect. Who knows?

I spent a little more time browsing other subreddits. Some of the spell stuff was way out there for me. But some of it was just about intention-setting and self-care, which I’m totally down with. I even saw some posts about using herbs in cooking, which is something I already do! So, not everything was totally foreign.

My takeaway? Reddit’s witchcraft community is a mixed bag. There’s some stuff that’s definitely not for me, but there are also some elements that are kinda interesting, even if you’re not a full-on believer. It’s all about finding what resonates with you, I guess. I’m not gonna start casting spells anytime soon, but I might keep that clear quartz in my pocket, just in case.
