Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try out a trad goth look for a while now. I’ve always been drawn to the aesthetic, but never really knew where to start. Today, I finally decided to just go for it!
Digging Through My Closet
First things first, I rummaged through my closet. I knew I needed a lot of black, obviously. I pulled out a bunch of stuff: a black velvet skirt I’ve had forever, a couple of black lace tops, some ripped fishnet stockings, and a few black dresses that I thought might work.
Trying Stuff On
Next, I started trying things on. It was a bit of a mess at first! One of the dresses was way too “fancy” – more like something you’d wear to a formal event, not really the vibe I was going for. The velvet skirt looked pretty good, but I needed the right top to go with it.
- The first lace top I tried was a total fail. It was too sheer and just didn’t look right.
- The second one was better – a bit more structured, with some cool detailing on the sleeves. That was a contender!
Accessorizing is Key
I knew accessories would be super important. So I grabbed my box of jewelry and started experimenting. I found a chunky silver cross necklace, some silver rings with black stones, and a pair of big, dangly earrings. I also dug out my old black combat boots – perfect!
Makeup Time!
Makeup was the fun part! I went for the classic trad goth look: pale foundation, heavy black eyeliner, and dark lipstick. I used a white face powder to make my skin look extra pale. I winged out my eyeliner pretty dramatically and smudged it a bit for a more “undead” look. For lipstick, I chose a deep, dark burgundy shade.
The Final Look
After a bit of tweaking, I finally got the look I wanted! I ended up wearing the black velvet skirt, the second lace top, the ripped fishnets, and my combat boots. I added the cross necklace, a few of the rings, and the dangly earrings. With the makeup, it all came together!
I was actually pretty happy with how it turned out! It definitely felt like “me,” but with a cool, dark twist. It was fun to step outside of my usual style and try something different. I might even wear this out to a club sometime! It’s a little extra, not bad, and I learned.
