Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with the whole trad goth look lately, specifically the 80s vibe. I decided to give it a shot myself, you know, see if I could pull it off.
Digging Through the Closet
First, I raided my closet. I was looking for anything black, obviously. I found a few old band tees – The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, that sort of thing. Score! I also dug out a ripped black skirt and some fishnet stockings. It was a decent start, but I needed more.
Thrift Store Adventure
Next step, the thrift store! Always the Best place for that.I hit up a few local spots, hoping to find some hidden gems. I was on the hunt for anything lacy, velvet, or maybe even a cool old Victorian-style blouse. I managed to snag a long, black velvet dress that was a little too big, but hey, that’s what belts are for, right?
DIY Time
- I took that oversized velvet dress and cinched it in at the waist with a wide, studded belt. Instantly gave it more shape!
- I also found a plain black top and added some lace trim around the collar and sleeves. Super easy, and it made a huge difference.
- Those fishnets? I ripped them up a bit more. Gotta have that perfectly distressed look.
Makeup Mayhem
This is where it gets really fun. The makeup is key for trad goth.

I’m going for a dramatic look.
- Started with a pale foundation – way lighter than my usual shade.
- Then, I went heavy on the black eyeliner. Thick lines, winged out, the whole shebang.
- Lots of black eyeshadow, blended out for a smoky effect.
- And of course, dark lipstick. I chose a deep burgundy shade.
The Final Look
I put it all together – the clothes, the makeup, the whole deal. I even teased my hair a bit for that extra volume and 80s flair. Honestly, I was pretty stoked with how it turned out! It’s definitely a bold look, but I felt awesome. It’s cool to step outside your comfort zone and try something different, you know? I’ll keep playing around with it, maybe add some more accessories next time. A silver cross necklace or some chunky rings would be perfect.
