Trad goth makeup looks: Easy steps for beginners!

My Adventure in Creating a Trad Goth Makeup Look

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try out a trad goth makeup look for ages. I finally decided to just go for it! I started by gathering all my makeup.

Preparation

I made sure I had:

  • White foundation: Way lighter than my usual shade.
  • Black eyeliner: Both liquid and pencil, because why not?
  • Black eyeshadow: The darkest I could find.
  • Black mascara: Lots of it.
  • Dark lipstick: I went with a deep burgundy.
  • Setting powder: To keep everything in place.

The Process

First, I prepped my skin. I cleansed and moisturized, because even goth skin needs love. Then, I applied the white foundation. It was kinda weird seeing myself so pale, but hey, that’s the point, right?

Next up, the eyes. I lined my upper and lower lash lines with the black pencil liner, making it pretty thick. Then, I went over it with the liquid liner, creating a dramatic wing. It took a few tries to get the wings even, but practice makes perfect… or at least, good enough.

After the liner, I packed on the black eyeshadow. I blended it out a bit to soften the edges, but kept it super dark and intense. Then, I loaded up my lashes with mascara. Several coats, top and bottom, until they were practically spider legs.

Finishing Touches

For the lips, I carefully applied the dark burgundy lipstick. I blotted it a bit to make it look more matte and lived-in. Finally, I dusted my whole face with setting powder to lock everything down.

And that was it! I looked in the mirror and was pretty stoked with the result. It was definitely dramatic and very… goth. It’s not an everyday look for me, for sure, but it was fun to experiment and step outside my comfort zone. Might even wear it out to a club sometime!
