Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try out a simple trad goth makeup look for a while now. I’m no makeup artist, but I figured, how hard could it be? Here’s how my little experiment went down.
First, I dug through my makeup bag for the basics. I already have pretty pale skin, thankfully, so I didn’t need to go crazy with foundation. I did, however, use a light dusting of translucent powder just to even things out a bit and create that kinda matte, almost porcelain look.
Eyes are Key
Next up, the eyes. This is where the magic happens, right? I grabbed a black liquid eyeliner – my trusty go-to. I wanted that classic, thick, winged liner look. Let me tell you, it’s harder than it looks! My hands were a little shaky at first, but I managed to get a decent wing on both eyes. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it’s goth. It’s supposed to be a little messy, yeah?
Then I smudged some black eyeshadow along my lower lash line. Just a little, to give it that smoky, “I haven’t slept in days” vibe. Which, to be honest, isn’t that far from the truth some days.

- Black liquid eyeliner: For those sharp wings.
- Black eyeshadow: For that smoky smudge.
- Mascara: Used Black one.
Don’t Forget the Lips
For the lips, I went with a deep, dark red lipstick. I’ve got this one shade that’s almost black, but not quite. It’s perfect for this look. I lined my lips first with a similar colored lip liner to prevent any bleeding, then filled them in with the lipstick. Blot, apply again, blot – the usual routine to make it last longer.
Final Touches and Thoughts
Lastly, I made my eyebrow’s shape to look more angular. I’m so proud of myself!
And that was it! Honestly, it was way easier than I thought it would be. It’s not perfect, and a real makeup artist would probably cringe at my technique, but I think I captured the basic essence of trad goth. It felt pretty cool, and it definitely gave me a confidence boost. Might have to wear this out sometime!
