Okay, dudes, let’s dive into my little adventure with “clothing trad goth.” I’ve always been intrigued by the whole goth aesthetic, but more the classic, old-school kind, not the super modern stuff. So, I decided to give it a shot and put together a trad goth look myself.
My Trad Goth Experiment
First, I hit up some thrift stores. Seriously, you gotta start there. You’re looking for anything black, obviously, but also stuff with texture. Think velvet, lace, maybe some old band tees if you’re lucky.
- I scored a long, black velvet skirt. It was a little big, but hey, that’s what belts are for.
- Then I found this kinda ripped-up black lace top. It looked like something straight out of an 80s music video, which was perfect.
- I even snagged some old, worn-out black boots. They were a bit scuffed, but that just added to the vibe.
Next, I went through my own closet. I already had a few things that could work – a black fishnet top, some silver jewelry (crucifixes and whatnot), and a decent black belt.
Then came the fun part – putting it all together. I layered the lace top over the fishnet top. The skirt went on, cinched with the belt. I added the boots and the jewelry, and honestly, I was pretty stoked with how it looked.

I messed around with my hair a bit, teasing it up for some extra volume. For makeup, I kept it simple – dark eyeliner, a bit of dark eyeshadow, and some pale foundation. I didn’t go full-on corpse paint, but I definitely went for a paler look than usual.
Finally, I took some photos. It’s all about documenting the process, right? Plus, it’s fun to see how the whole look comes together.
It was a pretty cool, low-budget way to mess with this style. You can do lot with a few key pieces. I’d absolutely do it again, the process is simple and fun.
