Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “goth trad” thing popping up all over my feed, and honestly, I was curious. I’m not gonna lie, I’m more of a comfy-clothes kind of person, but I figured, why not give it a shot? It might be fun to step outside my comfort zone.
First, I dug around for some inspiration. I spent a good hour just scrolling through images and saving anything that caught my eye. I noticed a lot of recurring themes: heavy eyeliner, dark lipstick, lace, velvet, and crosses. Lots and lots of crosses.
Next, I raided my own closet. I didn’t want to buy a whole new wardrobe for this, so I tried to see what I could work with. Surprisingly, I had a few black pieces that could fit the bill. I found an old black lace top I’d forgotten about, and a simple black skirt. Score!
Then came the makeup. This was the tricky part. I’m not exactly a pro with eyeliner, and the whole “goth” look is pretty intense. I started with a basic black eyeliner, trying to wing it out a bit. It took a few tries (and a lot of makeup remover), but I eventually got something that looked halfway decent.

- Eyeliner: Went for a thick, winged look. Messy at first, but practice makes perfect (sort of).
- Eyeshadow: I kept it simple with a dark gray, just to add a bit of depth.
- Lipstick: I found a deep burgundy shade that I thought would work. It felt a bit bold for me, but hey, that’s the point, right?
I used some basic skin care product to do the base.
After the makeup, I put on the clothes I’d picked out. The lace top and black skirt actually looked pretty good together. I added some black tights and my trusty old boots, and I was starting to feel like a real goth (well, a beginner goth, anyway).

Finally, I looked for some accessories. I didn’t have any crosses, but I did find a silver chain necklace that added a little something extra. I also put my hair up in a messy bun, because I figured that looked kind of “goth-y.”
The Result?
It was…different. Definitely not my usual style, but it was kind of fun! I felt a little bit like a vampire, which was surprisingly empowering. I’m not sure if I’ll be rocking the “goth trad” look every day, but it was definitely a fun experiment. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime, and maybe even get a cross necklace. Who knows?
