Okay, here’s my blog post about my “clothing trad goth” experiment, written in a casual, personal style, just like the example:
So, I got it into my head to try out that whole “trad goth” look. You know, the classic 80s style – Siouxsie Sioux, The Cure, all that. I’ve always liked the music, but the fashion? Intimidating! But hey, I figured, why not give it a shot?
Diving In (Headfirst, Probably)
First, I raided my closet. I mean, really raided it. I pulled out anything black, anything with lace, anything vaguely Victorian-looking. I ended up with a pile of clothes that mostly consisted of stuff I’d forgotten I even owned.
- Black skinny jeans? Check.
- A flowy black top that might have been my grandma’s? Check.
- Some ripped fishnets? Yep, got those too. (Don’t ask.)
Then came the fun part – trying stuff on. The result was less “elegant vampire” and more “teenager who just discovered Hot Topic.” Some items were okay, others were a definite mistake.
Makeup Mayhem
Next up: makeup. I’m no makeup artist, let me tell you. But I watched a few YouTube tutorials, grabbed my black eyeliner, and went to town. I aimed for “smoky eyes” and ended up with something closer to “raccoon eyes.”
The lipstick was another adventure. I tried a dark burgundy, but it looked… weird. Too bright? Too…something. I wiped it off and opted for a more subtle dark plum. Better, but still not quite right.
The Final (Messy) Result
I put on the “best” outfit I could assemble, added some chunky boots, and looked in the mirror. It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t even good, really. But it was… something. It was definitely a start.
I decided I am never do a full face of trad goth makeup. It’s too time-consuming, and honestly, I don’t have the skills.
I wore the outfit out to a local coffee shop, feeling a little self-conscious. But you know what? Nobody cared. A few people even gave me compliments! Maybe this trad goth thing isn’t so scary after all. I even learned it’s easier to just start small. Don’t be like me and do it all at once!
It’s a work in progress, for sure. But it was a fun experiment, and it definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime, with a little more practice (and a lot less eyeliner).
